Arizona has a new law dealing with illegal immigrants, as most of you are aware.  Facts regarding the lawlessness and costs of illegal immigration, both financial and human, are not receiving national attention.  The impression created by President Obama, pro-illegal advocates, and the media is that Arizona is a backward state, filled with racists trying to keep the “Hispanic man” down.  The truth, based on hard facts, is something quite different.

“‘We’ve had numerous officers that have been killed by illegal immigrants in Arizona,’ Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu said Monday.”

If you doubt the truth of Sheriff Babeu assertion,  you can see the list of these officers with a simple google search.

“Babeu said the violence in Arizona has reached ‘epidemic proportions’ and must be stopped. ‘In just one patrol area, we’ve had 64 pursuits — failure to yield for an officer — in one month,’ Babeu said. ‘That’s out of control.’
The recent murder of Arizona rancher Robert Krentz, who was shot to death last month on his own property, apparently by an illegal alien, also has fueled public outrage.” (h/t csnnews.com)

Southern Arizona ranchers have property destroyed not only through the damage done by hundreds of illegals crossing their properties, but also by the slaughter of livestock and destruction of water supplies.  The ranchers are prisoners in their own homes.  Answering their doors to find illegals who demand food and other items.

“On October 2nd,(2008) the Maricopa County, Arizona District Attorney’s office released crime statistics that prove this point. Overall, while illegals represent only nine percent of the population in Maricopa County (which includes Phoenix) they are responsible for approximately 22% of the crimes committed. Here is a breakdown of statistics by crime category. Illegal aliens account for:..

33.5% of those sentenced for manufacture, sale or transport of drugs.

35.8% of those sentenced for kidnapping.
20.3% of those sentenced for felony DUI.
16.5% of those sentenced for violent crimes.
18.5% of those sentenced for property crimes.
44% of those sentenced for forgery and fraud.
85.3% of those convicted of criminal impersonation or false ID.

96% of those convicted of human smuggling.” (h/t alipac.us)

“’We’re in the eye of the storm,’ Phoenix Police Chief Andy Anderson told ABC News of the violent crimes and ruthless tactics spurred by Mexico’s drug cartels that have expanded business across the border. ‘If it doesn’t stop here, if we’re not able to fix it here and get it turned around, it will go across the nation,’ he said. ” (h/t ABC News)

Phoenicians really enjoy the distinction of living in the kidnap capitol of the United States!

Medical costs for illegals include long wait times for Arizonans at emergency rooms that are packed with illegals.

”The federal Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA) mandates that U.S. hospitals with emergency-room services must treat anyone who requires care, including illegal aliens. Medical service for Americans in affected communities is being severely damaged as hospitals absorb more than $200 million in unreimbursed costs. Some emergency rooms have shut down because they cannot afford to stay open. Local tax-paying Americans are either denied medical care or have to wait in long lines for service as the illegals flood the facilities. In California, the losses are calculated to be about $79 million, with $74 million in Texas, $31 million in Arizona, and $6 million in New Mexico.

These costs are staggering. The Cochise County, Arizona Health Department spends as much as 30 percent of its annual $9 million budget on illegal aliens. The Copper Queen Hospital in Bisbee, Arizona, has spent $200,000 in uncompensated services out of a net operating budget of $300,000. The University Medical Center in Tucson may lose as much as $10 million and the Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center, also in Tucson, has lost $1 million in the first quarter of fiscal 2002. ” (h/t  theamericanresistance.com)

Arizonans are not racists. Arizonans are not confused. We realize our fellow Hispanic Arizonans are not the problem.  Illegal immigrants are the problem. Arizonans want the law enforced and our borders protected.  Arizonans are tired of  the increased crime, danger, and costs that are the direct result of illegal immigration.

Executive Summary

Analysis of the latest Census data indicates that Arizona’s illegal immigrant population is costing the state’s taxpayers about $1.3 billion per year for education, medical care and incarceration. Even if the estimated tax contributions of illegal immigrant workers are subtracted, net outlays still amount to about $1.3 billion per year. The annual fiscal burden borne by Arizonans amounts to more than $700 per household headed by a native-born resident.

This analysis looks specifically at the costs of education, health care and incarceration because they represent the largest cost areas and because a 1994 study conducted by the Urban Institute, which also examined these same costs, provides a useful baseline for comparison ten years later. Other studies have been conducted in the interim, showing trends that support the conclusions of this report.

As this report will note, other significant costs associated with illegal immigration exist and should be taken into account by federal and state officials. But even without accounting for all of the multitude of areas in which costs are being incurred by Arizona taxpayers, the programs analyzed in this study indicate that the burden is substantial and that the costs are rapidly increasing.

The $1.3 billion in costs incurred by Arizona taxpayers is comprised of outlays in the following areas:

  • Education. Based on estimates of the illegal immigrant population in Arizona and documented costs of K-12 schooling, Arizonans spend approximately $820 million annually on education for illegal immigrant children and for their U.S.-born siblings.
  • Health Care. Uncom-pensated medical outlays for health care provided to the state’s illegal alien population is now estimated at about $400 million a year.
  • Incarceration. The cost of incarcerating illegal aliens in Arizona prisons and jails amounts to about $80 million a year (not including the monetary costs of the crimes that led to their incarceration).

The unauthorized immigrant population pays some state and local taxes that go toward offsetting these costs, but they do not come near to matching the expenses. The total of such payments might generously be estimated at $257 million per yea

The fiscal costs of illegal immigration do not end with these three major cost items. The total costs of illegal immigration to the state’s taxpayers would be considerably higher if other costs such as special English instruction, school nutrition programs, or welfare benefits for American workers displaced by illegal alien workers were added into the equation.
